Dr. Patrick Leary—known affectionately as Pat or “Pa”—passed away peacefully, surrounded by family. Born in Portland, Oregon, he was a standout student-athlete who led Jesuit High School to a 1968 state championship before earning a baseball scholarship to UNLV.
A single class on desert plants inspired Pat’s lifelong passion for the flora and fauna of the Southwest. That spark grew into a distinguished career as a leading researcher and beloved professor at the College of Southern Nevada, where he taught and mentored generations of students for nearly forty years.
A man of deep faith, Pat shared a beautiful life with his wife, Cari; children, Drew and Jenny; and grandchildren, Cayden and Hudson. He found joy in coaching ballgames, exploring nature, and inspiring others through his kindness, humor, and humility.
A celebration of life will be held Saturday, November 22, at 1:00 PM at Cornerstone Christian Fellowship, 5825 W. Eldora Ave, Las Vegas, NV 89146.
All are welcome to honor his remarkable life and legacy.
