The story of
June 28, 1935 – November 9, 2025 William Arthur Vergin, known to family and friends as Bill, passed away peacefully on November 9, 2025 in Mesa, Arizona surrounded by family. Born on June 28, 1935 in Hammond, Indiana, Bill lived a full life of family, friendship, golf, and the simple joys that brought him happiness. A skilled crane operating engineer, Bill spent his career mastering his craft, and was a proud member of the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 150 in Northwest Indiana. He is survived by his four children Jeffrey Vergin (Rose), Victoria Vergin (Nicole Wight), Gigi Bryant (Greg), Brian Vergin (Julie), seven grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren, as well as several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Doshia (Walton) Vergin, and his beloved partner of 30 years, Hanne Manske. Though adopted, Bill was reunited with many of his biological siblings and extended family and treasured those connections deeply. Bill loved to golf, enjoying both the challenge and the camaraderie of the game. He and Hanne shared many happy hours together in their winter home in Arizona City while spending the warm months in Michigan City, Indiana. He was a big sports fan and loved watching Notre Dame football, the Chicago Bears, and the Chicago White Sox.
