Accu-Care Cremation & Funerals, LLC offers both cremation and burial-related options for Phoenix-area families, with cremation positioned as a primary service line. Public materials include an Arizona General Price List that outlines service categories, merchandise options, and common add-ons; however, those materials do not clearly state that a crematory is located on-site at the Virginia Avenue address, so families may want to ask where the cremation is performed for their specific arrangement and how transfers are documented. History of cremation in
Arizona
Historical Overview
Cremation in Arizona has evolved against a backdrop of diverse cultural and environmental factors. Indigenous peoples, including the Hopi, Navajo, and Tohono O’odham, historically practiced burial rites deeply tied to sacred landscapes and spiritual traditions. Spanish missionaries, arriving in the 17th and 18th centuries, introduced Catholic customs centered on churchyard burials. By the late 19th century, with the influx of Anglo settlers and the establishment of mining towns, small cemeteries and family plots dotted the desert terrain. Cremation, however, remained rare into the mid-20th century, overshadowed by traditional burial practices and limited infrastructure.
Current Trends
In recent decades, cremation has steadily gained acceptance in Arizona, mirroring broader national shifts. Factors such as cost efficiency, land-use considerations, and changing religious perspectives contribute to its growing popularity. Many funeral homes in Phoenix, Tucson, and other urban centers now offer comprehensive cremation packages, ranging from direct cremation to more elaborate memorial services. The state’s large retiree population—often more open to simpler, flexible disposition options—also plays a significant role in elevating cremation rates. Additionally, Arizona’s expansive deserts and scenic mountain ranges have become popular scattering sites, reflecting a strong connection to the region’s natural beauty.
Connection to Broader Trends
Arizona’s rising cremation rates align with national patterns driven by economic and cultural changes, including shifting views on religion and tradition. At the same time, the state’s retirement demographic introduces unique considerations; many transplants bring their own end-of-life preferences, accelerating the acceptance of cremation. Environmental awareness, prevalent among younger and older residents alike, further supports alternative funeral practices.
Future Outlook
Looking ahead, cremation is expected to remain a primary choice for Arizonans, buoyed by ongoing population growth and land-use concerns. As legislation adapts, newer, eco-friendly options—such as alkaline hydrolysis—may become more widely available. In this evolving landscape, cremation will likely continue to blend modern sensibilities with the region’s deep-rooted cultural and environmental heritage.

Any questions?
Most families receive their certified death certificates within 2–3 weeks after the cremation is completed. Timelines can vary based on the county where the passing occurred, how quickly the doctor submits required information, and whether there were any delays with family paperwork or payment. Once the death is officially registered with the County Health Department, we will place the order for your certified copies. If you’d like an update at any point, please reach out directly to the Care Specialist you’ve been working with via email. If you need the certificates urgently, let us know — we can guide you on the fastest available options. Please note that once an order has been placed with the county, we’re unable to cancel or refund death certificate orders.
We offer flexible monthly payment plans exclusively through Lilypay, with options for 3, 6, or 12 monthly installments. At this time, we are unable to accept county assistance programs. Your dedicated Care Specialist will guide you through the Lilypay payment process and answer any questions you may have. Payment is required and expected upon completion of the cremation authorization forms and the Statement of Funeral Goods and Services. We’re committed to providing families with transparent, affordable options while delivering world-class care.
When you request After's direct cremation services through our website or by phone, we gather the most pressing information we need to bring your loved one into our care (name of your loved one, address of their current location, your name, your relationship to your loved one, your phone number, and estimated weight of your loved one). If family is present when our care team arrives to bring your loved one into our care, we will verify the information already received, confirm next-of-kin and a few additional details, as well as any special requests.
If your loved one is at home when they pass, you can be at home with them up to 24 hours before they need to be taken into our care. This also applies to most care centers and hospice facilities, but you should confirm with an administrator at that facility.
If your loved one is at a hospital when they pass, we will bring your loved one into our care as soon as the hospital contacts After and authorizes release.
- If a passing occurs at home under hospice care or at a care facility, request a member of their staff contact us at 844-905-2639. A death must be reported by medical professionals when a passing occurs at home. The hospice or care nurse will provide us with the information we need to bring your loved one into our care, typically within 1-2 hours.
- If a passing occurs at a hospital or at the medical examiner's office, please let the institution know that you've chosen After as your cremation provider. Request that they contact us to coordinate taking your loved one into our care.
- If a passing occurs at home, NOT under hospice care, call 911 and wait for emergency personnel to arrive. Once emergency personnel have assessed the scene, they will direct next steps for your loved one to either be taken to the medical examiner's office or be taken into a funeral home's care. Call us at 844-905-2639 and we can help explain what happens next.
Some locations require two people to take your loved one into our care. In addition, After only serves certain counties. We restrict our service areas to ensure we can provide high quality care at the most affordable of prices.
We ask about weight to ensure that we have the appropriate number of staff for transport. Our priority is to safely bring your loved one into our care. Your best guess is sufficient and an over-estimation is preferable to an under-estimation. Depending on the crematory and the transport team there are additional charges if the weight of your loved one exceeds 200 lbs. Most of our facilities can accommodate upwards of 600 lbs individuals. Payment is required and expected upon completion of the cremation authorization forms and statement of funeral goods and services.
Requesting our services is very easy and takes less than five minutes online. All you need are a few key pieces of information. If your loved one is under hospice care, passed away in a hospital, or law enforcement is on scene, we recommend having them contact us directly to ensure their information matches ours.
Prepaid cremation plans are a type of final expense insurance. The policy you purchase ensures that your cremation services are paid for when you pass—regardless of what the prices may be at that time.
Our services are available entirely online. In addition, you can request our services by calling us.
Call Us (24/7)
Our dedicated staff is available 24/7 to answer any questions you may have via email or phone. You can request service online now.
The complete cremation process takes about 3 weeks, although sometimes much less time when families have pre-registered or pre-paid. There are many factors that determine timeline and we work very hard to make the process easy for families. Our process includes taking your loved one into our care, gathering all required authorizations, the cremation and return of cremated remains via USPS.
Note that the receipt of death certificates may take longer depending on how long it takes to receive certification from doctors and state/county processing time. Unusual circumstances may extend this timeline.
